Answer: | Meaning of the name Zinkvis | #788384 |
Ahoy, I'm the first private owner of the ' Zinkvis '. I bought the work boat in 1978 of a contractors company (I mean aannemersbedrijf in dutch) in Tilburg (Netherlands) and converted it into a ‘woonboot’, a boat to live on and sail with. I lived on the boat in Tilburg and travelled a lot with the Zinkvis in France. I saw the pictures of Zinkvis at the internet about a year ago and was surprised to see that almost everything is still the same as I have built. In 1987 I sold the ' Zinkvis ' in Paris to the new owner from San Francisco. The boat was transported on a seaship from Antwerp to America. Meaning of the name: zinc (metal) and fish of the firm named ‘Vis’. Vis is Fisch in dutch. The firm Vis was a galvanizing plant. They were neighbours of the famous shipyard called ‘De Vries Lentsch’ at the address... » show full text |

Hi John, I am the new owner of Zinkvis. I just saw this on the internet today. I bought her last September in Sausalito CA. USA. I moved her to Portland, OR. USA and she is now being moored at a Marina on the Wlllamette River in Portland, OR. Thank you for the information about her hull and the history. She needs some electrical work and some work on the head now but overall she is in very good condition. Also I need to do some painting on the outside. I can send you a picture of her if you like. Jody |

Term: | psalm 68/63?? | » answer |
Please, please, somebody: Hun blijdschap zal dan, onbepaald, Door 't licht, dat van Zijn aanzicht straalt, Ten hoogsten toppunt stijgen. I need the English translation. The reason I'm so confused is because it says "Psalm 63:2", but I find the verses in Dutch in Psalm 68:2, and - in either case - the English equivalent doesn't seem to match... |
Answer: | Psalms | #763367 |
I like puzzles. So I looked up the psalms 63 and 68 in two bible versions, thinking I could simply tell you to look at them in English versions like the King James, New King James, New International Version, and maybe a more modern, freer translation and then decide which one you would you like the most. 2 God zal opstaan, Zijn vijanden... » show full text |

I want to tell somebody whose native language is dutch to please stop calling me fat in the photos I post because it bothers me and that I hope he understands. He is young, so it could be informal but firm. please help? |
Answer: | Vet | #763187 |
Is that what he writes? Among younger Dutch people "Vet" is a positivity like "cool" in English. If he writes "fat" it still is possible he simply isn't very fluent in English and uses google-translate or a similar site. "Ik vind het niet erg leuk als je mij "vet" noemt, dat woord klinkt erg negatief voor mij." (add some English synonyms you like to help him?) I don't like it very much when you call me "fat", it has a very negative connotation to me. |
Term: | van ... uit gezien | » answer |
Terwijl voor de troon van God de totale menigte geredden aanwezig is, is van Johannes uit gezien het komen uit de verdrukking nog bezig. The portion in bold seems to be an idiomatic expression, van ... uit gezien, but I cannot find the meaning. Thanks for the help. |
Answer: | #739060 | |
http://www.linguee.com/english-dutch?query=van+uit+gezien from Johannes's/John's point of view Or possibly "according to the gospel of John" (it depends who "Johannes" is here). Do any of those interpretations make sense to you? Btw, Linguee is an excellent (albeit not entirely trustworthy) resource. It shows you how your phrase has already been translated in texts on the Internet. Not all the translation it finds is correct, but a good amount of it is (it is not Linguee's fault that it finds mistranslations, there are simply a lot of mistranslations out there). In case you don't already own them, I also recommend the van Dale Groot woordenboek Nederlands Engels. It's expensive, but the nest Dutch English dictionary I knw of. |
